Have questions or ready to source premium quality gherkins from India? Take the first step toward trusted supply, global standards, and unmatched taste.
India’s ideal climate in South India, skilled farmers, and modern processing facilities allow three crops a year, making it a global hub for high-quality gherkins.
Gherkins are cultivated in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, where soil and temperature conditions are most suitable.
Gherkins are grown through contract farming with over 1,00,000 small and marginal farmers. Farmers receive seeds, inputs, training, and assured buy-back at pre-declared prices.
Gherkins are exported in two main categories:
Provisionally Preserved (bulk in HDPE drums)
Preserved in Vinegar (ready-to-eat jars and cans).
Indian gherkins are exported to over 20 countries including the USA, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, South Korea, Canada, Japan, China, Australia, and more.
India exports over 2,25,000 metric tons annually, valued at around ₹700 crores, through about 51 exporting companies.
All manufacturers follow strict ISO, HACCP, and BRC-certified processes, ensuring food safety, consistency, and adherence to global customer requirements.
IGEA promotes training, research, farmer welfare, and international trade cooperation, while representing the industry with government bodies to boost exports.
